How to Sell My Timeshare For More

Author: Daniel Palmer

What price should I ask for my timeshare week?

It may come as a surprise to you but your timeshare is only worth 30%-50% of what you paid when you bought it from a developer. In spite of all the talk from the sales person about how you were getting a foreclosure or a closeout and it would rise in price it just isn't so. Need proof? Go to eBay and look at how many timeshares are selling for a fraction of their original price.

How to find out what your timeshare is really worth.

1. Do an internet search for your timeshare by resort name and week you are selling. If your timeshare is listed for sale by a reale company or there is an ad for it you should see results

2. Search Ebay and see if your week or a similar week is posted or has sold.

3. Call, write or email your resort and inquire if any resales have taken place for similar weeks

4. Check real estate records in the county where your resort is located

5. Do a Google search for your week by resort name and interval you are selling. If s similar timeshare week is listed for sale you should see it in the results

Where Do You Advertise?

Go to timeshare user group forums and to timeshare authority sites such as Redweek.com to advertise your timeshare for sale or to see if someone has a similar week listed for sale

There are sites that offer free timeshare listingsDo a search for "free timeshare listings".

Contact your resort for ideas of how others have sold their week. Advertise on a bulletin board or in a newsletter at your timeshare.

If you consider trying to sell your week on e-Bay you must know that there are so many weeks listed for very little that it will probably cause the value of your timeshare to be dragged down. Set a reserve as low as you are willing to sell for; if you don't have a minimum selling price you may find you have sold the week for $1!

If the property is actively marketing and bringing in prospective buyers consider listing the week for sale in papers where the tours are generated from. For example, if you have a ski week for sale in western Massasschusets advertise in Boston, Hartford and Albany papers. Consider listing in the local newspaper where the timeshare is located. Imagine a couple having just seen a week they almost bought for $20,000. They go to lunch and see your ad for a similar week listed for $10,000! They may call you.
